No Sunday off for Mamata & ministers

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was at her Kalighat residence on Sunday but not far away from her work. She held marathon meeting with her ministers giving shape to some the implementation process of some of the ideas that she promised to the people of Bengal through the “Vision Document”.

Some of them were elated to improve the traffic condition in Kolkata and Banerjee had summoned Transport and PWD minister Subrata Buxi. Also shemet Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs (Independent Charge) Madan Mitra and Minister of state for Railways Mukul Roy separately.

“Didi wanted details on issues pertaining to Transport and PWD Departments. I assured her that I will present the relevant files to her within three to four days,” said Buxi,after the hour-long meeting. “She also instructed me to improve the near stagnant traffic condition of the city as soon as possible,” he added.

Banerjee had taken a tour of the city on Saturday evening,and got a first-hand experience of the traffic condition as her car got stuck in jams at a number of busy junctions like Esplanade,Park Circus and Elgin Road.

Sources in the Trinamool said that mainly three matters were discussed in the meeting. First,improving the traffic condition of the city,secondly the condition of heritage buildings in the city and lastly,the question on bringing the Kolkata Tramways under Metro Zonal Railways.

“Didi sought a detailed report on the present condition and legal status of the heritage buildings from Subrata Buxi. She also inquired about the condition of health centres in the state,as renovation and reconstruction of these buildings fall under PWD’s jurisdiction. She wants the reports to be submitted to her within seven days,” said a Trinamool insider.

Sources said that she also discussed the bottlenecks in executing the Joka-BBD Bagh Metro railway project as it has been hit by of the tram lines from Taratala to Joka.

“The chief minister had a brief meeting with Madan Mitra and asked him to draft a consolidated sports policy. “She told me to help her with suggestions on the policy as soon as possible,” said Mitra while touring Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake.
