Naxals or IT crimes,Andhra cops show the way to Bengal

The state police are increasingly looking to the Andhra Pradesh police for assistance in both tackling the Maoist menace and crimes in IT sector.

The state police are increasingly looking to the Andhra Pradesh police for assistance in both tackling the Maoist menace and crimes in IT sector.

While a team of state police is being sent to Andhra Pradesh to train under Greyhounds, the elite anti-Naxal unit,a group of policemen is being sent to Cyberabad, the IT sector near Hyderabad, for training. These policemen will be stationed at the new police station that came up at Rajarhat earlier this month.

DGP Bhupinder Singh today said the policemen are being sent to other states which have expertise in tackling problems related to insurgency.

Already, several groups of state policemen were sent to states like Punjab,Orissa and Chhattishgarh where they underwent intensive training. “A group of 30 jawans of India Reserve Battalion will be sent to Andhra Pradesh for training,” the DGP said.

He said the new police station at Rajarhat that will cater to the employees of IT sector at Salt Lake and Rajarhat would be a “model, showpiece” police station manned by police trained in dealing with highly professional people.

Incidentally, the police station at Rajarahat was set up about a fortnight ago following a series of cases of abductions and eve-teasing. Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen visited there earlier this month and held a meeting with senior police officers.

“About 70,000 highly educated people work in the IT sector and we require people with specialised training to deal with this kind of people. That is why we are sending a batch of policemen who will train at the cyber city near Hyderabad. We have asked North 24-Parganas SP to select such policemen who should be sent for training to Andhra Pradesh,” Singh said.
