WITH the deadlock over the panchayat elections date continuing,confusion has arisen over the model code of conduct. Since the Trinamool Congress government had issued the panchayat poll notification unilaterally on Friday night and even announced the dates for the two phases April 26 and April 30 questions were asked whether the model code of conduct has already set in as the commission had not yet issued a parallel notification in this regard.
The state election commission admitted that the model code of conduct,in these circumstances,has become a grey area.
Speaking to the mediapersons after the state election commision met on Monday in Kolkata to decide its course of action in the wake of the governments unilateral move of issuing the notification,Tapas Roy,secretary of the commission,said: There is a grey area regarding the model code of conduct as the commission has not issued a parallel notification. We will speak to the state government to sort out the matter, Roy said.
Subrata invokes Charnock to slam Congress,BjP
Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee refused to comment on the state election commissions move. However,on the BJP and the Congress meeting the Governor and urging him to intervene in the issue,he said: Let the Governor take legal steps. We will decide on that. So far,holding the elections separately for the three districts is concerned, who says that they were Congress bastions. Even Job Charnock divided the districts for administrative expedience.
