Mob ransacks police station in Kolkata

An irate mob ransacked a police station and torched a police vehicle here on Friday after being dispersed from a hospital premises where they were protesting the death of a woman,police said.

Trouble broke out in the morning when people protesting the death of Saharan Chowdhuri,daughter of Trinamool Congress Councillor Moinul Haque Chowdhuri,at a private nursing home in south Kolkata on August 2 were removed,sources said.

The mob then ransacked Rajabagan police station and a set ablaze a police vehicle alleging police inaction. The violent protest near took place near Safi Kathgola at 8.35 am.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and Rapid Action Force RAF was pressed in to bring the situation under control.
