The officials of state Forest Department arrested a person after they recovered two deer skulls along with horns from him on Tuesday in South 24-Paragnas.
The suspected poacher is currently in jail custody as the court is closed for the festivals.
Swapan Sardar (30),a resident of Purba Gurguria village under Moipith police station in Raidighi forest range,has been booked under the Wildlife Protection Act. According to forest range officials,a team of the department raided Sardars residence following a tip-off. Two skulls of deer and their horns were seized from Sardars house.
Preliminary investigations show that Sardar could be a habitual poacher and part of a larger nexus of deer poaching. A few months ago,officials had recovered deer and tigers skin from South 24-Parganas.
