Kolkata Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee met Governor M K Narayanan on Monday evening amid growing political tension in the wake of Union Home Minister’s letter to Chief Minister about growing political violence in the state.

Kolkata Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee met Governor M K Narayanan on Monday evening amid growing political tension in the wake of Union Home Minister’s letter to Chief Minister about growing political violence in the state.

Though she refused to divulge any details about her visit to Raj Bhavan and termed it as a “courtesy visit,” sources in the party said it was a step to put further pressure on the Central government over the issue of deteriorating law and order in the state.

“We have been urging the Central government for long to do something about the escalating violence in West Bengal. We are happy that the Centre has finally reacted and sent this letter,” said Suvendu Adhikary,Trinamool MP from Maoist-affected Junglemahal region. “The Governor has already send reports highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Our leader (Mamata Banerjee) thanked him for that. She also further stated that security forces are being misused by the state government. She asked the Governor to do something,” said a senior leader of the party. Sudip Bandopadhyay,Trinamool chief whip in the Lok Sabha,meanwhile said: “It is a issue between the state and the Centre. We are watching the situation.”
