Madrasah Board rejigs academic session

Following the footsteps of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education...

Following the footsteps of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE),the West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education (WBBME) has also decided to change its academic session to January to December for all the 571 madrasahs in the state from 2012.

The WBBME has also decided to split the syllabus of Class IX and X from 2012 to enable the students take the exams with less stress. The change of the session and syllabus will affect about four lakh madrasah students in Bengal. “Teachers get stressed in evaluating answer-scripts as the Board examinations and annual examinations are held in the same month. They will have now more time to evaluate answerscripts,” said WBBME chairman Sohrab Hossain.

According to him,the move will also help the students as they will not have to write exams in harvesting and festive seasons and can hence have more classes.

The Board has decided to introduce oral examinations for mathematics and English from the next year. For other subjects, the madrasahs can assign projects to the students. Ten marks will be allotted for the project work.
