Letters between PC,Buddha not relevant in SLP: Govt

The state government today filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in compliance with the latter’s order seeking government’s explanation.

The state government today filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in compliance with the latter’s order on Thursday seeking government’s explanation on suppression of documents in the Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging the Calcutta High Court’s order to hand over the Netai investigation to the CBI .

The apex court had sought the explanation from the state on the suppression of the letters exchanged between Home Minister P Chidambaram and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in December,2010 regarding armed camps run by the political parties in various districts.

In the affidavit, the state government today said the SLP only challenged the High Court order which directed the state to hand over the probe from the CID to CBI. It said the letters exchanged between P Chidambaram and Chief Minister were not relevant in the SLP and so those letters were not annexed in the SLP filed by the state government.

Today, the Supreme Court did not hear the case for shortage of time and the case will come up for hearing on Monday, said advocate Pratik Dhar, counsel of the state.

In a separate development, the CBI filed the status report before the Division Bench of Chief Justice Jaynarayan Patel and Justice Ashim Roy in the Calcutta High Court on the progress of the investigation in the Netai case. After going through the report, the Division Bench adjourned the case for two weeks.

Advocate Himangsu De,counsel of the CBI,said the agency has put stress on collecting evidences and documents from the Netai village.

The CBI took fingerprints of the accused in the custody now. One of the accused in his statement to CBI disclosed the names of persons involved in the Netati carnage. The escape route of the armed goons after the incident was the important focus of the investigation, said the source.
