Ahead of the Assembly elections this year, the state BJP leadership on Thursday announced a ‘Booth Chalo Abhiyan’ from February 11- February 20 which, it said, was compulsory for party leaders to attend else they might have to face expulsion.

The decision was taken during a BJP state committee meeting which was attended by party joint general secretary Shiv Prakash, national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, state party president Dilip Ghosh, national secretary Sidharth Nath Singh and former state president Rahul Sinha in Kolkata Thursday.

“The senior leaders have said there would be a ‘Booth Chalo Abhiyan’ from February 11-20 and all the leaders of the state have been asked to participate in it. The mission is to reach to the 77,254 booths of the state. Those who stay away from this movement might also stand to be expelled from the party,” said a senior BJP leader.

He added that senior BJP leaders from the Centre would also be coming over in the next two months for rallies. Party national president Amit Shah would be addressing four rallies. “Two venues – Burdwan and Barasat – have been fixed so far. We have been asked to work for strengthening the organisation till the booth level and to restore the Modi wave which was prevalent in 2014,” said a party cell president.

Talking to The Indian Express, Vijayvargiya said, “I have come to meet the new district presidents and discuss the party’s roadmap. We discussed ways to highlight the state government’s failures and strengthen the party here.”
