The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is set to issue a circular to all its health centres directing them to ensure that those coming for dengue tests must share their address — both permanent and temporary — and contact number.0
Sources said the move is being taken to keep a record of migrant labourers who are found to be positive in tests but it becomes difficult to trace them since they have different permanent and temporary addresses.
“Ward 24 councillor Ellora Saha raised concern on Friday that several migrant labourers are visiting KMC health centres for dengue and malaria tests but there is no record of their residential addresses. This is creating a problem in keeping a record of the total count of infections besides being a hindrance in identifying the hotspots,” said a civic body official. “Many who get tests done at KMC health centres are usually migrants. So if we have their address, it can help us identify areas with dengue spread,” he added.
Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh said since the tests are free of cost even those who come to Kolkata for some work get them done. Over 40,000 dengue cases have been reported this season in West Bengal so far.
In the past three days, four persons died of dengue in West Bengal. On Saturday, a 40-year-old woman resident of Bongaon in North 24 Parganas died of the infection at a private hospital. On Friday, three persons died in South 24 Parganas district.
