IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has filed a writ petition with the Calcutta High Court on Thursday, challenging the directive of the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (PCB) to cut down on noise levels during the upcoming IPL Twenty20 matches at the Eden Gardens. In the writ petition, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise has objected to the PCB’s directive to show restraint over the use of microphones and firecrackers during the matches in Kolkata with annual examinations in progress.

Recently, the state government’s pollution control wing had shot off a written directive to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to keep away from using loudspeakers and crackers during the matches at Eden.

Kolkata will host seven home matches of the KKR with the Knight Riders’ match against Bangalore Royal Challengers coming up at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
