Kali Puja 2025, Kolkata Traffic Advisory Today: In view of Kali Puja celebrations on October 20, the Kolkata Police has announced traffic restrictions and diversions to ensure vehicular movement and public safety.
The curbs will come into effect from the early morning of October 20 and continue till the early hours of October 21.
Movement of all types of goods vehicles, except those carrying idols for Kali Puja, will be prohibited across Kolkata from 6 am on October 20 (Monday) to 4 am on October 21 (Tuesday).
However, certain categories are exempted from this restriction. Emergency and essential supply vehicles, including those carrying LPG cylinders, CNG, petroleum products, milk, medicines, vegetables, fruits, fish, and oxygen, will be allowed to operate.
Port-originated or port-bound goods vehicles and those with gross vehicle weight below 1600 kg will also be permitted up to 4 pm.
Light goods vehicles will be allowed to operate between 12 pm and 4 pm during the restriction period.
Several major roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 4 pm on October 20 to 4 am on October 21, except for property-line vehicles.
These include Bankim Chatterjee Street, Surya Sen Street, Shyama Charan Dey Street, S.N. Banerjee Road (between Rani Rashmoni Road and R.A. Kidwai Road), R.B. Avenue, Chetla Central Road, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Sarani, Bhim Ghosh Lane, Keshab Ch. Sen Street, College Street/Bidhan Sarani, Mudialli Road, Lenin Road, Tollygunge Road, Bagdipara Road, and Jeliapara Road.
Closures will be imposed “as and when considered necessary by police on duty,” depending on crowd and traffic conditions.
Traffic movement on certain busy thoroughfares will be regulated between 4 pm and 4 am, or as required.
Strand Road (North) traffic will be diverted from the eastern end of Howrah Bridge via Brabourne Road Flyover.
One-way restrictions on Strand Road & Brabourne Road will begin at 6 am instead of 8 am.
S.N. Banerjee Road traffic will be diverted via R.A. Kidwai Road – N.C. Street – Ganesh Chandra Avenue – C.R. Avenue.
From 4 pm on October 20 to 4 am on October 21, no parking, loading or unloading will be permitted along several important routes.
Major no-parking zones include College Street, Bidhan Sarani, K.K. Tagore Street, S.N. Banerjee Road, Prince Anwar Shah Road, Raja S.C. Mullick Road, Banamali Naskar Road, Upen Banerjee Road, Biren Roy Road (West), Pathak Para Road, Arya Samity Road, Siddhinath Chatterjee Road.
These restrictions will also be in place for Santoshpur Avenue, D.H. Road, James Long Sarani, M.L. Gupta Road, Santosh Roy Road, E.M. Bypass (P.A. Shah Connector to Garia Station Road), Garfa Main Road, Mukundapur Main Road, Hiland Park–Ajoynagar service road, N.S.C. Bose Road and Baishnaghata Patuli Connector.
All bus and tram stops on College Street between Keshab Chandra Sen Street and Surya Sen Street will remain suspended during this period.
To manage the heavy footfall expected at Kalighat Kali Temple, special traffic arrangements will be in place from 5 am to 11 am, and again from 5 pm on October 20 till 4 am on October 21.
In addition to this, Kali Temple Road between Haldarpara Road and Kalighat Road will be closed, and no parking, loading, or unloading will be allowed on Kalighat Road, except at designated authorized parking zones.
