Registration for Maharashtra’s common entrance tests may soon become costlier, with the State CET Cell proposing a revision of examination fees across all major higher-education admissions. The proposal, now with the higher and technical education department for approval, seeks to increase the registration charges by Rs 150 to Rs 250, depending on the exam. At present, candidates pay between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, depending on whether the test is conducted on paper or as a computer-based exam.
The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell oversees 19 entrance examinations covering 72 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including engineering, pharmacy, nursing, hotel management, and teacher education. Pen-and-paper exams currently carry fees in the Rs 500 – Rs 600 range, while computer-based tests are priced between Rs 800 and Rs 1,000.
Over 14 lakh candidates took various CETs last year, and officials expect participation to rise well over 15 lakh in the upcoming cycle, in 2026.
The proposed fee revision comes as the CET Cell also earlier announced the tentative examination calendar for the 2026–27 academic year across technical, higher, agricultural, arts, and medical education streams. The next CET cycle will start earlier than usual, beginning with the MP.Ed CET on March 24.
