Kabir Suman pens song for ‘Maoist’ farmer

Rebel Trinamool MP Kabir Suman has written a song, parodying a Rabindranath Tagore piece, against Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee. The song, which was put up at the MP’s website today, talks about the arrest of farmer Shiladitya, who,at a public rally at Belpahari last week, had questioned the Chief Minister on her government’s policies towards farmers.

“I wrote the words, did the voice and music tracks, edited and mixed them on August 13. I’ve used the melody of a Rabindra song. My apologies to Rabindranath,” Suman wrote on his website along with the song.

When contacted, the singer-turned-politician said,“Music is my medium,so it’s my way of protesting against this heinous act. I wanted to write a satire on what has been done to Shiladitya,a man who wanted to say something in the spirit of democracy. Instead of listening to him,the Chief Minister branded him a Maoist and put him behind bars.”
