JU students suspended for ragging

Two Jadavpur University students were suspended Wednesday for ragging a student from Darjeeling

Barely a month after two ragging cases were reported from prominent educational institutions in the city, two Jadavpur University students were suspended Wednesday for ragging a student from Darjeeling.

Final-year engineering student and a fourth-year printing technology department student were expelled from the hostel premises and suspended for two semesters and one semester respectively.

A second-year engineering student of Information Technology department lodged a complaint with the UGC last month alleging he was ragged and beaten by seniors for several weeks. The student was staying at the hostel in Salt Lake campus.

UGC forwarded the complaint to the university authorities, who in turn set up an inquiry panel to probe the matter.
