Midnapore: The People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) called off its indefinite strike in in West Midnapore,Bankura and Purulia districts on Tuesday in view of two regional festivals. “The indefinite strike has been withdrawn in view of Charak festival tomorrow and Poila Boishak the day after,” PCAPA central committee member,Manoj Mahato said. The strike was called to protest the Lalgarh visit of Union Home Minister.

23-yr-old hacks teenager to death
KOLKATA: The quarrel over mangoes allegedly claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy in Khidderpore on Tuesday and in a rare coincidence,both the victim and the alleged assailant bear the same name — Bablu Bint.
According to the police,16-year-old Bablu Bint was rushed to the SSKM Hospital early on Tuesday after his throat was slit by 23-year-old Bablu Bint,who lives in a slum near the victim’s house at Kolkata Port Trust quarters.
“A couple of days ago,the accused came to the victim’s residence to steal mangoes from a tree near his quarter. After the victim and his sister resisted the youth from stealing the mangoes,the accused threatened them of dire consequences,” said a senior officer of the South Port police station.
