Power has made Left swollen-headed: Bardhan
Thirty-three years in power in West Bengal appeared to have got the Left Front swollen-headed and the debacle in the civic body polls was a message to improve oneselves,CPI general secretary A B Bardhan said in New Delhi on Friday. Analysing the civic body election results,Bardhan acknowledged there was an alienation between the cadre and people and anti-incumbency factor played a role. They (Left Front) have to improve themselves. They have been too long in power. Maybe they got swollen-headed… because of that they have got alienated. Perhaps some sort of bureaucratism crept in. All these things were very clear, he said in an interview to a news channel. When asked whether the Left Front has stopped being democratic,Bardhan said,I must say that has been so.
Will keep demanding early polls: Mamata
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has said that her party will step up its demand for early assembly elections in Bengal,where no governance worth the name exists.
Every day,I will keep demanding early Assembly polls in the state, Banerjee told a Bengali TV channel.
However,making it clear that she was not demanding application of Article 356 in the state,the Railways Minister leader reiterated that elections in the state could be held along with the Assembly polls in Bihar in October.
Claiming that the longer the ruling Left Front clung to power the more ruin the state faced at its hands,she said: People have given their verdict on Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee government.
No decisions minus our nod: Trinamool to KMC
A delegation of Trinamool Congresss new councillors led by former mayor Subrata Mukherjee met Alapan Bandopadhyay,secretary,Department of Urban Development,on Friday and demanded that henceforth all decisions taken by the civic body must have their concurrence. We have given the names of some senior councillors to the officer and told him that the outgoing board should consult them before taking any policy decision, said Mukherjee.
Mamata sets up panel for Bidhan Nagar Municipality
Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee announced the formation of an expert committee for the Bidhan Nagar Municipality. Debabarata Banerjee,a former IAS officer,has been made chairman of the committee set up as an advisory of the municipality. It is significant that Banerjee included four retired IPS officers H A Safi,Rachpal Singh,Sultan Singh and Upen Biswash in the committee.
