CITU calls off April 13 bandh
The labour wing of the CPM,Citu,on Friday called off the 24-hour transport strike which was scheduled for April 13 across the state to protest against the hike in petroleum prices. Kali Ghosh,state secretary of Citu,said the party decided to defer the transport strike as the Left parties have called a nationwide strike on April 12 and this would have led to two consecutive days of bandh in Bengal.
It would then affect the common people and keeping this in mind,it was decided to postpone the strike, said a Citu leader.
3 gangmen die after train runs them over
Three railway gangmen in the Eastern Railways Asansol Division,were killed after a train ran over them on Friday. The incident took place between Durgapur and Waria stations.
The three have been identified as Biswaranjan (29),Baliramlal (54) and Jagadeshwar Yadav (30). The driver of 3151 Up Jammu Tawi Express spotted the bodies lying by the tracks and called the railway control about 3 p.m. to inform them of the deaths. Train services were disrupted for some time on the route.
Scanner installed at High Court
In view of the present security scenario,a scanner was installed at the entrance of the Calcutta High Court for the general public on Friday. The scanner will start functioning from Monday,said Basab Dasgupta,Deputy Commissioner,Reserve Force,Kolkata police.
Home Secretary in Silda today
Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen on Friday left for West Midnapore district to review the progress of inquiry into the February 15 Maoist attack on an EFR camp at Silda that left 24 personnel dead.
Sen said he would meet the district magistrate and the SP of the district before visiting Silda to ascertain the progress of the second phase of the inquiry.
Sen was scheduled to visit Domjur in Howrah district on his way to Midnapore.
