Man arrested with deer skin

In a special drive,the CID today recovered skins of three deer from Sonarpur in South 24 Paraganas. Acting on a specific input,a CID team seized deer skins worth Rs 3-4 lakh from the possession of one Sahabuddin Gaji. Gaji has been taken into police remand. According to sources,Gaji is a member of a racket dealing in animal skins. He was carrying the skins from Sundarban and was to deliver them to a receiver in Sonarpur.

CBI seizes two firearms from Netai

A CBI team today seized two firearms from Netai village which were suspected to have been used by the CPM armed cadres who fired at the villagers on January 7 in which nine people were killed. Sources said the guns were handed over to the CBI by the villagers who had snatched those guns from the armed CPM cadres on the day of the massacre. Meanwhile,police today seized 15 guns and four landmines from Moshina village in Salboni area in West Midnapore. Police have detained eight people and have started their interrogation. Police also arrested Sushiato,secretary of CPM local committee at Lodhashuli and Mrintyunjai Khilari,CPM leader of the area in connection with a murder at Khayerboni village. The duo were produced at the Jhargram court today and were remanded in police custody. Both the CPM leaders were arrested from Jhargram town.
