IAC to launch hunger strike in Kolkata today

The Kolkata chapter of India Against Corruption will sit on a hunger strike starting Wednesday at the Metro Channel to demand action against 15 Central ministers facing allegations of corruption.

Kolkata:The Kolkata chapter of India Against Corruption will sit on a hunger strike starting Wednesday at the Metro Channel to demand action against 15 Central ministers facing allegations of corruption. “The move is intended to create an awareness among the masses so that they join hands to put pressure on the government. Our demand is that a Special Investigating Team (SIT) is formed,comprising any three retired judges of the government’s choice. The team would honestly investigate corruption charges against the cabinet ministers,” said Vineet Ruia,a senior member of the Kolkata chapter.

‘Maoist’ bought land in Asansol

Kolkata:Arrested Maoist leader Vikram alias Arnab Dam is said to have told his interrogators that bought a plot of 1.5 cottahs in Asansol,where he was living as a labourer before his arrest from Biramdi railway station in Purulia. According to police sources,Vikram has told his interrogators that the Ayodhya squad in Purulia was dismantled in March,2012. “The squad had a fund of Rs 40 lakh. After the squad was dismantled,the fund was divided among its 12 members according. Vikram got a share of Rs 1.9 lakh,which he used to buy a plot in Asansol at the rate of Rs 55,000 per cottah. He revealed this during the interrogation,” said a senior police official.
