After girl from Bangladesh intercepted, Bengal couple held for ‘human trafficking’ in Delhi

THE WEST Bengal CID on Friday arrested a couple from Delhi on charges of human trafficking.

The police identified the couple as Buddhadeb Gan (31) and Sonia Fakir (28) who hail from Kanyani, Nadia district.

The anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) of the CID arrested the duo from Tughlakhabad Extension area in the national capital. They were produced before a court in Delhi on Saturday that granted their transit remand to the CID.

“Officer and force of AHTU held raid at Tughlakhabad Extension area under PS- Govindpuri, South Delhi and helped the Investigating officer of Sealdah GRPS to secure arrest of prime traffickers namely Buddhadeb Gan and Sonia Fakir,” said a senior CID officer.

According to Nishi Kant, executive director of Shakti Vahini NGO, which provided local support to the CID, the complaint was lodged at GRP Sealdah in May after a woman Bangladesh national, suspected to be a victim of human trafficking, was detained from Sealdah Railway Station by RPF personnel.

“On the basis of her account, the Government Railway Police, Sealdah, registered an FIR against Sonia Fakir and others who trafficked the woman into the country. The CID was also informed about the case which was investigating the matter,” he said.
