Heaviest downpour of year in kolkata

Kolkata witnessed the heaviest downpour of the year on Thursday as the Met office recorded a rainfall of 110.6mm. “This is a record for this year. Also,we don’t usually see such heavy rainfall over a short period of time. During monsoon,a rainfall of 80-85mm is common in some parts of the city,” a duty officer at the Regional Meteorological Centre,Kolkata said.

Lightning kills two in howrah

Two persons were killed and two others suffered burn injury when lightning struck them Thursday noon at Howrah. The police said Krishna,a worker in a fruit shop,died when lightning struck him on Foreshore Road in Howrah city during pouring rain. Another person,Sk Asif,died on the spot when lightning struck him at Bakra while he was walking on a road.
