Govt trying to scuttle TMC man’s postmortem, says Mamata

Union Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that the state government was deliberately trying to botch the postmortem of slain Trinamool worker Sahabat Khan Chowdhury.

Union Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that the state government was deliberately trying to botch the postmortem of slain Trinamool worker Sahabat Khan Chowdhury.

With the body yet to reach Bhangar or the postmortem report revealed, she alleged the police and the administration had deliberately delayed the postmortem.

“As per rule, the postmortem should have been completed by 2 pm today, but the administration did not start the process till evening,” Banerjee said at a meeting in Bhangar after visiting Khan’s house.

Around 6.45 pm,Banerjee said she received a message from Delhi, which informed her that the postmortem had begun minutes ago after intervention by the Union home ministry.

The home secretary had accepted that the police opened fire, but he added that the police fired in the air,Banerjee said. “I want to know whether Sahabat Khan Chowdhury was flying and he was shot dead in the air,” said Banerjee. “Until and unless the body reaches,I will not budge from the spot,” she added.

The state government, she said, has nothing to give to its people — NREGS jobs, roads, schools or food. “Other then spreading terror it did not do anything. Every day people are falling prey to state-sponsored terror”.

If the CPM thinks it will eliminate people indiscriminately and “we will sit idle, they are wrong”,she warned. “They should not construe our restraint from spreading violence as a sign of our weakness.”

Member of Parliament from Joynagar Tarun Mondal, said the East Canning Assembly constituency has been chosen as a safe haven for the musclemen and criminals hired by the CPM.

“The CPM is trying to recapture lost ground there by killing and terrorising people. Two dreaded criminals,Sattar Mollah and Unis Sardar, keep threatening the people. They have killed several people, but have never been convicted as they are sheltered by ministers Abdul Razzak Mollah and Subhas Naskar,” said Mondal.
