‘Gave wrong info to HC on press accreditation rule’

Arguing on the petitions challenging the new rule framed for the press accreditation cards in October last year,a counsel of the state government,on Tuesday,admitted in the court that in an earlier hearing in December 2011,he had gave wrong information to the court which was provided by the information and cultural affairs department.

During the first hearing in December last year,Sundar Pal,counsel of the state government,had pleaded that the new rule,’West Bengal Press Representative Accreditation (Amendment) Rules,2011’ was framed under the Press Registration and Books Act 1867. On Tuesday,filing an affidavit,Pal said that new rule has been framed under Article 166(3) of the Indian Constitution. Pal admitted he had misled the court during the first hearing.
