Five die in Nadia accident

Five persons died and one was seriously injured when an oil tanker lost control and ran over them early on Sunday morning near Buddha Park at Kalyani town in Nadia district.

Five persons died and one was seriously injured when an oil tanker lost control and ran over them early on Sunday morning near Buddha Park at Kalyani town in Nadia district. The tanker was coming from Mogra in Hooghly and was bound for Kolkata via Kalyani Expressway.

The dead included Dilip Singh,Sunil Chowdhury,Anil Singh,and Santosh Sahu — all daily wage earners waiting to be picked up for work.

Another labourer,Ashok Sahu has been admitted to Kalyani Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. All the dead and injured are between 20 and 30 years of age.

The driver fled from the spot but his helper has been arrested. The vehicle has been impounded by the police.
