‘Fearing action’,MLA skips Assembly session

The FIR was lodged after skeletons,skulls and bones were dug up on June 4 near Ghosh’s residence.

Trinamool Congress leader and MLA Mrigen Maity alleged that a number of his party supporters were allegedly abducted after a meeting in the village in 2002 and remained untraced ever since.

The son of Ajay Acharya,a local TMC supporter who went missing since 2002,claimed one of the skeletons dug out from near the ancestral house of Ghosh as that of his father’s.

Ajay Acharya was missing since September 22,2002 after he was allegedly abducted by CPM cadres following a clash with TMC workers.

Following the excavation of seven skeletons and several bones,Ajay Acharya’s son lodged an FIR at the Keshpur police station in West Midnapore district against Ghosh and CPM leaders Imtiaz Ali and Tarun Roy on June 6. The state government has ordered a CID probe into the recovery of skeletons.

Sushanta Ghosh was last seen in the state Assembly on the first day of the house on May 30,days before the skeletons were found and the FIR lodged.

However,after the murder complaint was lodged,both Sushanta Ghosh and Tarun Roy,a leader of Krishak Sabha,were suspected to have gone into hiding.

Surjya Kanta Mishra,leader of the Opposition,denied any comments. But a senior member of the CPM state committee confirmed that Ghosh has been ordered to lie low for some time. “Both leaders have been asked to go under cover and not attend Assembly. The state committee does not want any further embarrassment. We have information that CID is looking for him and can take him into custody.”

Speaker Biman Banerjee said,“We have noticed that Sushanta Ghosh is absent in the ongoing session. But we have not received any official communication regarding his absence from the Opposition.”

Rabin Deb,a senior leader of CPM,said,“Sushanta Ghosh is tired after days of campaigning. There is no connection between his absence and the FIR. There are several other FIRs against senior leaders. But no one is absconding as these are political cases. There is no evidence to prove the charges against them.”
