The ACJM court,Jhargram, granted interim bail to Naba Dutta,a social activist and general secretary of Nagarik Mancha,a social organisation working on environmental issues.
He was arrested yesterday in connection with the violence that took place at a cement and sponge iron factory on December 18,2009. The factory had been ransacked and a mob had set fire to the vehicles parked in front of the factory.
The police alleged that Dutta was involved in the violence by planning the attack. According to the case diary of the police,Nagarik Mancha had staged a dharna in Kolkata on December 16,2009 where Dutta had hatched the conspiracy to attack the factory, said advocate Sadhan Roy Chaudhury.
Later, two employees of the factory had said in their statement before the magistrate that they came to know about the plan on December 16.
Roy Chaudury said that as the incident took place in a private factory,so sections of anti-national activities were not applicable in this case. Moving the bail petition Roy Chaudhury pleaded that the court has already granted bail to 46 accused persons who were arrested in connection with the case.
After the hearing the ACJM court observed that the Sections of anti-national activities shall not apply on this case.
