DMs to look into BPL card issue

After meeting district magistrates on Wednesday,Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee decided to give them more power to them for issuing BPL cards to the poor.

Panchayat Minister Chandranath Singha said the CM took the issue of Below Poverty Line cards very seriously and instructed the district magistrates to ensure that the poor are covered by the public distribution system.

A district magistrate said the inspector at the block level issues BPL and Antodaya cards to the poorest people after verification.

However,a large section of poor remain outside their purview for administrative lapses and political reasons.
