Following the joint forces intensifying their operations in LWE districts, the Trinamool Congress on Thursday made fresh allegations of the nexus between the Maoists and the CPM.
As the Left parties criticized the recent shift in the stand taken by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Maoist movement before the Assembly elections,Subhendu Adhikary, the Trinamool Congress MP,at a rally at Keshipata in West Midnapur, alleged that local CPM leaders in Sankrail block and other places had taken shelter under Maoist cover. The CPM leaders who had fled away from the village after the Assembly polls, also supplied firearms to Maoists,he alleged.
Armed Maoists had abducted the Officer in-charge of the police station at Keshiapata in 2009.
Giving a warning to the Maoist-CPM nexus,Adhikary said people would resist the force if they tried to attack villages. The people are mobilised enough to resist the Maoist terror,he said.
Referring to the surrender of Jagori Baske,a hardcore Maoist,on Thursday,Mukul Roy,Union Shipping Minister, who was present at the rally, said Maoists would be encouraged to join the mainstream.
Meanwhile, joint forces have reportedly seized huge quantity of arms from the forest areas in West Midnapore and Bankura districts.
Pravin Tripathy,SP West Midnapore, said one INSAS rifle and one SLR have been recovered from Mathurapur and Bera forests respectively in West Midnapore. According to Tripathy, the joint forces traced out the arms during the search operations in the forest areas of Salboni,Goaltore,Lalgarh and Midnapore Kotwali police stations.
In the past few days, the joint forces have recovered firearms and explosives from different locations in West Midnapore. Tripathy said the district police have continued the search operations to trace out the firearms.
In a separate development, the joint forces have also recovered six INSAS rifles, one AK-47 and other firearms from a forest under Jhargram police station. They have also recovered a rifle in Ranibandh area of Bankura district.
