CPM,not us behind abduction: Maoists

Thirteen days after the abduction of IB officer Partha Biswas and school teacher Soumyajeet Basu.

Thirteen days after the abduction of IB officer Partha Biswas and school teacher Soumyajeet Basu, the Maoists squad operating in Purulia on Thursday claimed the organisation had begun an inquiry into the abduction in which they were not involved.

In a statement faxed to some mediapersons in Purulia,Vikram, who identified himself as a state committee member of the CPI-Maoists,alleged the CPM was behind the abduction and conspired to put the blame on them. “We have come to know from the media that an Intelligence Branch inspector and a school teacher have been abducted, but we are not involved in the incident,” said the statement.

The statement noted that the abduction could have occurred “because of internal differences within the police”. “After the incident,we came to know how the policemen are spying on us in the garb of social workers. We cannot think of it. In future,we will be more careful and we will take strong action if we get to know about any such spy,” the press note added.

Partho Biswas and Soumajeet Basu had gone missing on October 22 from Ayodhya hills in Purulia district. Police believed the duo were abducted by the Maoists, though the police did not have any clue about the movement of the squads operating in the area. IG (Western Range) Zulfiqar Hassan said,“We are investigating the matter. But we have to verify why the Maoists declared that the duo is not in their custody after 13 days of the abduction. If they did not abduct them, they could have declared the fact earlier.”
