A Trinamool Congress worker was killed allegedly by CPM cadres at Gangarampur village in Birbhum district on Tuesday morning. According to police,28-year-old Ashoke Das died on the spot after miscreants opened fire at him. Das was returning from a local market on a motorbike when the incident took place.
Superintendent of Police (Birbhum) L N Meena said that police conducted raids in the area but no has been arrested in this connection. The body was sent to Bolpur hospital for postmortem. Meena said that Das was also wanted in connection with several criminal cases. Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee,meanwhile,said that she had received the information about the incident but did not publicise it as it may escalate the political violence in the state.
