CM warns against creating communal discord in state

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday asked people in the state to be aware of the anti-social elements and to refrain from discriminating each other on the basis of religion

In view of the recent communal flare up in Uttar Pradesh, which has left close to 50 people dead,Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday asked people in the state to be aware of the anti-social elements and to refrain from discriminating each other on the basis of religion.

“I request you not to indulge in Hindu-Muslim differentiation. Some anti-social elements are trying to incite communal tension. They are instigating people to fight each other,” said Banerjee while addressing a public meeting at Sarisha in South-24 Parganas.

Citing communal harmony in West Bengal, the CM said “both Hindus and Muslims here celebrate pujas together.”

“Do we ask who is from what background? Do we distribute the prasad according to religion? We do not. We will continue to celebrate together, live together peacefully,” Banerjee said.

The CM,at the same rally, also announced identity cards for the fishermen living in the coastal villages, besides inaugurating a shelter house for the cyclone-hit people in the district and a hilsa research and preservation centre at Sultanpur fishing harbour.
