CM violating model code of conduct: CPM to EC

On Monday,a CPM delegation led by party’s central committee member Rabin Dev met state’s Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta and complained against further alleged violations of code by Banerjee. “On September 16,the chief minister,after an all-party meeting at Writers’ Buildings made some policy announcements regarding restrictions on public meetings and putting up of hoardings which also violated the model code of conduct,” a party memorandum said.

“A rally was organised at Bhowanipur on September 17 in which the CM,union ministers,state ministers and Kolkata Mayor took part. Their official cars were fitted with red beacons which is a clear violation of MCC. We have submitted necessary paper cuttings and CDs to the Commission,’’ Rabin Deb said. He also alleged the ECI was showing bias in support of the chief minister and election observers are not doing their duties properly.

However the office of the chief electoral officer said utmost care is taken to ensure a free and fair election. “So far as the first complaint is concerned,we have got a report from the DEO,Kolkata and sent it to ECI,” said Dibyendu Sarker,Joint CEO.
