Police on Thursday arrested Santu Barua,a student of class XI,from Egra in East Midnapore for allegedly killing his classmate.

Class XI student held for killing classmate

KOLKATA: Police on Thursday arrested Santu Barua,a student of class XI,from Egra in East Midnapore for allegedly killing his classmate. Raju Mandal died yesterday after he was allegedly beaten by Santu over some dispute in the school premises in Regent Park area in South 24 Paragana. Raju was rushed to Bangur Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Santu fled from the crime spot after the incident but was arrested by police today. He has been remanded in police custody till July 11.

Trade unions seek healthy movement

Kolkata: A delegation of the Left trade unions and the INTUC on Thursday urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to act against alleged atrocities. Citing instances of capture of party offices and obstruction of members,CITU state General Secretary Kali Ghosh said If such things continue it will affect democratic trade union rights.” Ghosh said.
