Chief Secretary Sanjoy Mitras claim that the rape victim received adequate medical attention drew flak from the All India Democratic Womens Association (AIDWA),the womens wing of the CPM.
Tall claims made by the Chief Secretary in providing adequate arrangements for treatment were unfounded, said Malini Bhattacharya, president,AIDWA,said, adding hospital authorities turned a deaf ear to AIDWA members plea to shift the 16-year-old to a place with
a proper burn ward. She also added the victim was shifted to the ICU only after pressure was mounted on the authorities.
Bhattacharya also slammed the police in executing their duties. Had there been adequate security, the girl would not have been raped on the second occasion. After the incident, offenders continued to harass the victim.
On Mukul Roys comments about the accused being arrested, she said arresting people was not enough. Protection of the rape victim is of prime importance and the state government has failed in doing that, she added.
