Chattradhar’s bail plea withdrawn

Advocate Jaymalya Bagchi apprised the Division Bench of Chief Justice Jaynarayan Patel and Justice Ashim Kumar Roy that he wanted to withdraw the bail petition of Chattradhar Mahato and Sukhsanti Baske,leaders of the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities.

Advocate Jaymalya Bagchi apprised the Division Bench of Chief Justice Jaynarayan Patel and Justice Ashim Kumar Roy that he wanted to withdraw the bail petition of Chattradhar Mahato and Sukhsanti Baske,leaders of the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities.

The Bench today heard the bail petition of Mahato,Baske, Prasun Chatterjee,Raja Sarkhel,who were also arrested for their involvement with the CPI (Maoist). All the four were arrested in connection with a landmine blast took place at Kantapahari in Lalgarh on September 26,2009. Bagchi pleaded that he wanted to withdraw the bail petition of Mahato and Baske but he would continue the argument on the bail petition of Sarkhel and Chatterjee.

The Bench dismissed the bail petition of Mahato and Baske. It asked public prosecutor Ashimesh Goswami about the present status of the case against Mahato,which was pending in the additional sessions court,Midnapore. The Bench also wanted to know about the status of the application filed by the state government in the High Court seeking transfer of the trial of Mahato from Midnapore to Alipore court. The Division Bench asked Goswami to apprise the bench on the present status of the cases on January 5.
