Cartoon: Rights panel summons police chief

Two months after a professor of Jadavpur University was arrested for forwarding ‘obscene’ cartoons of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on social-networking website,Facebook,the Human Rights Commission on Tuesday summoned Police Commissioner R K Pachnanda and sought a report on the incident. Pachnanda is expected to appear before the panel in mid-July. The commission has taken the case suo motto.

JU professor Ambikesh Mahapatra and his neighbour were booked under sections 509,500 and 114 of the Indian Penal Code and section 66A (b) of the

IT Act.
