Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim on Wednesday asked Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to make a statement in the House on the killing of a former CPM MLA,Ananda Das,at Nanoor.
Admitting a calling attention motion by RSP member Nirmal Das,the Speaker asked Parliamentary
Affairs minister Sailen Sarkar to fix a date for the chief minister to make a statement in the House on the killing. Das was murdered allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers at Nanoor on Tuesday.
Sarkar said the chief minister will make the statement on Thursday.
Earlier,CPM MLA Pradip Ta demanded arrest of the killers and exemplary punishment to them. He also sought adequate compensation for the family of the victim.
Nirmal Das of the RSP said the politics of killing and violence was being brought back to the state as in the dark days of 1972 to 1977.
Dilip Sarkar of the CPM alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to eliminate leaders and workers belonging to his party.
Condemning the killing,Asit Mal of the Congress said his party was against the politics of violence.
Earlier in the day,a 15-member team of Left MLAs,led by government Chief Whip Md Masih,visited the residence of Das and spoke to the bereaved family.
