Three die in separate accidents
Three persons were killed in separate road accidents in Kolkata on Wednesday. A van-rickshaw puller died at Beliaghata main road early this morning when a lorry collided with the rickshaw. The victim was taken to the NRS hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The police failed to trace the lorry or its driver.
In another incident,Kajal Ghosh (50),a cycle-van puller,died when a vehicle hit him at Manicktala Main Road. Ghosh was taken to R G Kar hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
In a separate incident an unidentified physically-challenged person died at the S P Mukherjee Road when a matador hit him while he was crossing the road. The police arrested the driver of the matador and impounded the vehicle.
Meanwhile,one Sumitra Das (50) was seriously injured at the crossing of Broad Street and Bondel Road in the morning when a private bus knocked down a motor cycle. Das was taken to Ruby Hospital with serious injuries.
NGO protests against quota
The All India Legal Aid Forum,a social organisation,on Wednesday called for a movement against reservation of Muslims in government services as announced by the state government recently.
Joydeep Mukherjee,general secretary of the organisation,said that it would soon form an anti-reservation forum and organise a movement similar to the anti-Mondal Commission agitation in 1990.
