Bagdogra airport to get night landing facility
Bagdogra airport will soon have night landing facility. “Bagdogra will be equipped with CAT 3 night vision facility that will enable pilots to have clear visibility of 50 metres at night,” said Transport Secretary Sumantra Chowdhury in Kolkata on Friday. He said the state government would provide 23 acres of land to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) free of cost. Of the total area,the state government would keep nine acres under its possession and the rest will be acquired by the AAI at the cost of Rs 84 lakh.

JU students call off agitation
After being holed up in their offices for nearly two days,officials of the Jadavpur University came out of their offices on Friday after students lifted their agitation. The students had been agitating against imposition of code of conduct. The agitation was called off after authorities decided to refer the matter to a committee comprising students also.

Gold worth Rs 20 lakh stolen from jewellery store
Robbers decamped with gold ornaments worth over Rs 20 lakh from a jewellery shop in south Kolkata on Thursday night. It was in the morning that Balaram Basak,the shop owner,found the shutter’s locks broken and the ornaments missing. “The miscreants looted ornaments from the first floor and seem to have fled through the terrace,” said a police officer. “The robbers looted ornaments weighing 1,300 gram and cash Rs 70,000,” said Damayanti Sen,DC,Detective Department.

Garment park on water body: HC to hear PIL on Feb 12
The Calcutta High Court has fixed February 12 as the date for the final hearing on a PIL that claims a garment park at Howrah is developed by filling up a water body. Jalabhumi Bachao Committee,a Howrah-based social organisation,had filed a PIL in October 2008 alleging that the state government had allotted about 700 acres of a water body at Chamrail and Joypur in Liluah police station for the garment park. The petition sought an order for restoration of the water body and cancellation of the proposed garment park.
