Brace for more rain

With heavy rainfall lashing the state for the last two days,the met department is predicting a flood-like situation in five districts of West Bengal.

Kolkata received 203 mm rainfall in the last 48 hours,said a senior official of the Regional Meteorological Centre.

The traditionally dry districts of Bankura and West Midnapore also received 13 cm and 3 cm of rainfall in the last 24 hours,while Murshidabad received 13 cm rainfall in the same period.

The meteorological department predicts that in the next 24 hours,Kolkata will experience intermittent light to moderate rain while five districts — Hoogly,Bankura,Burdwan,Birbhum and Murshidabad — will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours.

“The low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal is still there. It was located 50 km south east from Ranchi around 8-30 am on Sunday morning. It is moving towards Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. But since it is moving slowly,heavy rainfall is continuing in West Bengal,” said the official.

With the city experiencing very heavy rainfall on Friday,and moderate rainfall on Saturday,a number of areas including Alipore Bodyguard lines at Alipore,Kidderpore,Ekbalpore,New Alipore,Behala,Dhakuria,Dum Dum,were waterlogged on Sunday morning.
