BJP trying to divide country, must quit India: Mamata
‘Modi failed to deliver on almost all promises, has lost right to rule’

Accusing the BJP of trying to break the country into “tukde tukde”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said the Narendra Modi government has lost the right to be in power and his party should “quit India”.
Speaking at an event on the occasion of Adivasi Diwas and Quit India anniversary in Jhargram, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief said, “We had forced the British to leave the country. Now, we are asking the BJP government at the Centre to leave its seat of power in Delhi. BJP, you quit India! You don’t have the right to be in power.”
Without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had taken a swipe at the 26-party alliance INDIA, Mamata said: “They are saying ‘quit India’. We don’t need to quit. I belong to this country. It is a movement. They have forgotten (Mahatma) Gandhiji. The British were made to leave India by the freedom fighters. We wanted freedom… Our movement is against this deprivation perpetuated by the current Central government.”
“Dalits are being oppressed everywhere, including Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. They are being humiliated in numerous ways and people are being killed in encounters. Manipur is burning for the past four months. Yet, the Centre remains unmoved. They think that by inciting communal riots, they can break the country into ‘tukde-tukde’ (parts) and divide it,” the TMC chief said.
She added: “They (BJP leaders) don’t want to save lives and provide people with food and healthcare. The only priority for BJP is to lie and win elections. Didn’t they promise to give Rs 15 lakh in every bank account and fail? The PM is not able to deliver on even a fraction of the promises and claims made by him. As soon as elections are near, he will claim to give free ration. But why has it been stopped now?”
“By blocking funds for the 100 days of work scheme, they (BJP) want the poor to suffer…
The Centre takes money from the state government in the form of GST and refuses to pay us our rightful dues… When the Centre blocked funds for Rasthashree Scheme, the state government allocated funds from their own exchequer to repair 11,000 km of roads… We provide our people with healthcare facilities, foodgrain, education, books, uniform, and several other basic necessities,” she said.
