The others who wrote the letter to the PM included chief ministers Arvind Kejriwal (Delhi), K Chandrasekhar Rao (Telangana), Bhagwant Mann (Punjab), Deputy CM of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, NC leader Farooq Abdullah, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, and Uddhav Thackeray.
Days after nine Opposition leaders, including West Bengal chief Mamata Banerjee, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging “blatant misuse” of Central agencies in the wake of the arrest of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in an excise policy case, the BJP alleged that the Opposition parties were trying to put pressure on central agencies.
“There are together trying to put pressure on ED and CBI with an intention to affect the investigation,” state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said.
“Do these parties want allegations of corruption related to cow smuggling, coal smuggling and liquor licence to be investigated? It seems that their intention is that there should be no investigation of any kind of corruption in the country,” Majumdar added.
On ED questioning actor Bonny Sengupta in connection with the teachers’ recruitment scam, he said, “We are getting information that proceeds of crime were siphoned to Bengali entertainment industry. ED will find out if he (Bonny) has benefited from it or not.”
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said the TMC must reveal the amount of money it has raised through electoral bonds if it was as honest as it claims to be. “If they are bothered about so-called misuse of central agencies, they can move court against it. If the TMC claims to be the most honest party in the country, then it should reveal the details of funds it has received through electoral bonds over the years,” the BJP MLA said.
Hitting back, the TMC said BJP has raised the highest amount of money through electoral bonds. “Central agencies are being used to harass opposition leaders. But, the BJP and its leaders like Suvendu Adhikari should remember one thing that the days of the ‘agency raj’ would not continue for long. Why are they not releasing the details of the funds they received through electoral bonds? BJP has received the highest amount of money through bonds,” state MoS for Finance Chandrima Bhattacharya said.
The others who wrote the letter to the PM included chief ministers Arvind Kejriwal (Delhi), K Chandrasekhar Rao (Telangana), Bhagwant Mann (Punjab), Deputy CM of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, NC leader Farooq Abdullah, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, and Uddhav Thackeray.
