BJP nominee shot in Malda

A BJP candidate of the panchayat elections was shot Sunday night at Nalagola,Habibpur,Malda.

At 10.45 pm,Nripen Mondal,leader of opposition of the Habibpur panchayat,was returning from a meeting along with three other party members,in a Tata Indigo car when a group of about 15 men stopped the car and opened fire at them. They fired 24 rounds and four bullets hit Mondal who died on the spot.

Mondal was a candidate for the Haripur Panchayat Samity election. Police refused to divulge the names of the others who were in the car.

BJP’s state general secretary Ashim Sarkar ha s written to the State Election Commission about the killing and other instances of violence.
