The state government has cracked a whip on errant policemen who have failed to act properly in the seizure or arms.
Within four months,Debashish Chattaraj,the officer-in-charge of Goghat,a CPM stronghold in Hooghly district,was transferred on Monday for allegedly not being neutral during the seizure of arms from CPM offices in the area. In the second week of January,Kishore Singha Chowdhury,the then OC of Goghat police station was removed by the Elections Commission for failing to control violence in the area.
Tapasbrati Chakraborty,the OC of Jangipara police station in Hooghly,has also been transferred on the same grounds. Moreover,the administration has sent Inspector in-charge of Arambagh,Arindam Das,on leave as punishment for not cooperating into the seizure of arms in the area.
In January,officers of four police station in Hooghly were transferred for allegedly failing to control violence and tendency of acting in a biased manner after the EC team visited the area. Among them were Samir Ranjan Lala (Arambagh inspector-in-charge),Biswajit Ghoshal (Pursura officer-in-charge),Sangram Chowdhury (Khanakul OC) and Kishore Sinha Chowdhury (Goghat OC).
