A lone private security guard was seen manning the Baguihati branch of Indian Overseas Bank,where a heist of Rs 25 lakh took place in broad daylight on Monday.
Sources in the police said the branch does not have even basic security arrangements that helped the robbers to escape with the loot without facing any resistance. Officers of the West Bengal police,who visited the bank on Tuesday,said that no one has been arrested in the case so far. The bank had put up a notice on Tuesday informing the customers that there was no cause for panic as their valuables in bank lockers were safe.
The branch does not have adequate number of security guards and authorities never bothered to install closed-circuit television cameras, said a customer.
Meanwhile,Sahi Kumar,Chief Regional Manager,Indian Overseas Bank,visited the Baguihati branch on Tuesday and also paid a visit to security personnel Saif Khan,who was injured by the robbers. He also took note of the poor security arrangements and checked the alarm bell of the bank in presence of bank officials.
