The argument of the Tata Motors challenging the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act concluded on Friday. Following this,Justice I P Mukherjee directed all the parties to submit their written notes of arguments before September 20.
Tata Motors counsel Samaraditya Pal on Friday pointed out the provisions of making compensation under the various acts on land acquisition prevailing in West Bengal and other states. He said the Singur Act was silent on how the compensation amount would be decided by the district court and that it should give guideline on fixing the compensation amount.
On June 22,the state government had taken over the possession of the land at Singur which was under the possession of the Tata Motors. The government move was undertaken in view of the Singur Act which was passed in the Assembly in the second week of June. The Tata Motors had moved the Calcutta High Court on June 23 challenging the Singur Act.
