Days after being expelled by their party for his alleged role in land grab, former Trinamool leader and councillor from Rajarhat municipality Sukhen Chakraborty and his supporters were assaulted allegedly by Trinamool workers, who also dismantled the dharna manch they had set up at the Krishnapur-VIP Road crossing, where they have been protesting against their former party for the past six days.
On Friday night,a few unidentified men who had their faces masked arrived at the venue and allegedly roughed up Chakraborty and his supporters.
I have lodged a complaint against members of my own party. It is shameful, but I had no choice. My own party colleagues assaulted me and demolished our dharna manch. We were just protesting against our summary expulsion, said Chakraborty, alleging the attack on them was planned by Jyotipriyo Mullick,a district Trinamool leader.
Mamata Banerjee speaks about democracy. But what kind of democracy is this? Is silencing dissent within the party by assault a democratic means, Chakraborty said.
The expelled leaders also accused the North 24-Pargans Trinamool leadership for sheltering party supporters and leaders involved in the Vedic Village land grab. We have been made scapegoats while the real culprits are at large. Those who had links with the Vedic Village land grab are roaming free, said Tanmoy Mondol, former Trinamool MLA from Rajarahat who too was expelled. We were not even given a show-cause to defend ourselves, he added.
Trinamool leadership refused to comment. Mamata decided on whatever action was taken. We are not in a position to explain why, said a senior party leader.
