After Governor M K Narayanan sent a list of recommendations on upgradation of the Eastern Frontier Rifles’ headquarters at Salua in West Midnapore district,the state government has asked its police department to prepare an action plan based on his recommendations.

Narayanan had visited Salua in the last week of February to meet the families of the slain EFR personnel killed during Maoists’ raid on Silda camp. After his visit,the Governor had sent a note to the state government making several recommendations on improving the battle-worthiness of the state paramilitary force as well as the living condition of EFR camps. He had also advised the state government not to use the EFR for any other purpose other than maintaining law and order. “We have sent the recommendations to the DGP for action,” a senior official of the state Home Department told The Indian Express.

The state government has already sanctioned Rs 2 crore for building the boundary walls at the Salua camp as proposed by the Governor too. State Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen will visit Silda and Salua camps of the EFR on March 21 as part of the inquiry launched by the state government on the February 15 Maoist raid.

Narayanan wanted:
* Re-training of EFR personnel
* Improve the lighting facilities of the camps
* Improve the living condition of the personnel
* Use of sophisticated arms and ammunition
* Using the paramilitary personnel in “proper EFR tradition”
