500 SSKM docs,staff go on strike

About 500 junior doctors and hospital staff of the SSKM hospital,went on an indefinite cease-work after Subhamoy Ghosh,a junior doctor,was allegedly assaulted by a patient party.

About 500 junior doctors and hospital staff of the SSKM hospital,went on an indefinite cease-work after Subhamoy Ghosh,a junior doctor,was allegedly assaulted by a patient party.

Mahammad Irfan (21),a resident of Watgaunge,was admitted to the SSKM hospital with injuries in the morning and he died after a few hours. Following this,his relatives staged a protest inside the hospital alleging that Irfan had died due to negligence. The protestors then allegedly assaulted Ghosh and other group D employees of the hospital.

Following this,the junior doctors and the group D staff called a strike which disrupted the health services in the hospital. The junior doctors alleged that though policemen are placed at the hospital outpost,they did not intervene in the situation. The doctor was beaten up by the patient party and the police remained a mute spectator,alleged the junior doctors.

Dr Dilip Dutta,president of the doctors association,said it was not possible to work in a hospital where there was no security for the doctors. The group D employees alleged that the police also blamed the doctors for the death of Irfan.

Officers at the Bhawnipore police station,meanwhile,said that three persons have been arrested in connection with the assault on the doctor at SSKM.
